Abstract:
In this thesis, the genetic regulatory dynamics within the cell cycle network of the yeast Saccharomyces Cerevisiae is examined. As the mathematical approach, an asynchronously updated Boolean network is used to model the time evolution of the expression level of genes taking part in the regulation of the cell-cycle. The attractors of the model’s dynamics and their stability are investigated by means of a stochastic transition matrix. It is shown that the cell cycle network has unusual dynamical properties when compared with similar random networks. Furthermore, an entropy measure is employed to monitor the sequential evolution of the system. It is observed that the experimentally identified cell cycle phases G1, S, G2 and M correspond to the stages of the network where the entropy goes through a local extremum.
